It turns out that beer is a rich source of silicon, which in turn helps to keep your bones strong. But wait! You can’t just be out drinking any old beer. Wheat beers and light beers made from corn grains are not so helpful. It needs to be beer loaded with malted barley and hops. Yum.
Dr Claire Bowring, from the National Osteoporosis Society, said: “These findings mirror results from previous studies which concluded that moderate alcohol consumption could be beneficial to bones.
Meanwhile Catherine Collins, a dietitian at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust in London, tried to take the wind out of the sails by noting, “Silica may well contribute to bone health but in a minor way. It is not really significant compared with nutrients that we know are essential for bone health…”
But personally, I’m taking no chances. I working on bones of iron. Now if I just figure out what to do about the joints of Jello that hold them together.
