Those close to me have heard my plans for my own memorial service. They involve your basic Irish wake type event, but I wanted traditional Native American corn soup served. Why? Well, the soup recipe calls for ashes, and I thought it would be cool to have my cremated self sort of immortalized in the gullets of the guests. Although I also recognize that this would also serve to keep attendance at a minimum, and likely the soup tureen quite full. Not that I really expect anyone to do that. It’s not like I’ll know, but it would be something for people to talk about. The good news is that hopefully I have decades left to work out the details and alter the plan.
And a man named Alan is causing me to rethink things a bit. He had the foresight to be ensconced in a classic Sun SPARC case. Well, that’s seems a geek challenge of the first last order.
I like the idea, but what enclosure would be best? There are so many iconic devices. Maybe I should swap out the battery of a few of my early smart phones and stuff a small baggie in each. That way all the kids could have a memento. Or a PC case would be big enough for all of us. It could be like a portable family plot. A router is about the right size. A WiFi router would be even better as it might look like I was still tuned in from up there on the mantle (or even in the closet I suppose).
Wow, suddenly I’ll never just casually recycle any of my electronics ever again. And the good news is that no matter how stupid my family thinks this idea is, it will be more popular than the soup.
