I thought this was a joke at first, but apparently Ireland has passed a law making blasphemy a crime, punishable by a €25,000 fine. This is a wonderful bit of anachronistic legislation. Doubtless just the first step as they return to burning witches and stoning adulterers as well. Ahhh, the good old days.

On the plus side, they are making our legislators look like rocket scientists. A feat which is not a feat easily undertaken since Senator Sam Brownback just introduced a bill prohibiting the creation of animal/human hybrids in the laboratory. This should effectively set Dr. Moreau’s research back a few years. Although this isn’t a done deal yet, as I expect this bill to be under a lot of pressure from the Superhero lobby (Batman, Spiderman, Catwoman, Hawkman, etc.).
