Hannibal Smith would not think this plan is coming together…

It seems they are remaking the old A-Team television series into a major motion picture. Be afraid. Be very afraid. What’s strange here is not that they are updating the story such that the team is fresh from Iraq rather than Vietnam. That makes sense. What’s inexplicable is what could possibly be behind the statement made by Director Joe Carnahan. He said:

“Fox hired me to make it as emotional, real and accessible as possible without cheesing it up.”

Excuse me? Has he ever watched an old episode? This show oozes cheese like a can of aerosol Chez-Wiz. I rather enjoyed the old television series, precisely because it didn’t take itself too seriously. It was just good clean fun where the good guys always won, lots of stuff blew up, and nobody got wounded. It was not real, emotional, or accessible. It worked entirely because the charcters were characatures and the acting was second rate. Sure, add better special effects and a more complex plot line. But don’t mess with what made this a joyous romp in the first place.

Next thing you know they’ll be remaking Ironsides as a romantic comedy.
