I had to post this given my sons’ quirky fascination with these whale wannabees. From deepest darkest Africa comes a report that several scout leaders had their canoe swamped by a hippo.

Key quote:

“We were on full hippo watch and all of a sudden we came to an abrupt halt. I thought we had hit a rock. The front went up and the middle went up.

“It burst out like a submarine missile. We didn’t have time to be scared. The canoe was going down fast. The hippo was about 20 yards away looking at us.”

All of which leads me to conclude that the Scout Handbook may want to revise the chapter outlining the correct procedure for performing a Full Hippo Watch.
