A Leaky Boat Sinks All Passengers

The reason we must take government action to shore up the economy is precisely because we are all in this boat together. The trouble is, many don’t realize they are actually in the boat. Thomas Freidman explain further. I realize I’m beginning to wear out this soap box, but the world is a way more complicated and interconnected system than most people perceive; than most people want to perceive; hell, than most people are capable of perceiving. More than ever, we need leaders who don’t rush to the sound-bite solution. And this goes way beyond the President. Congress has demonstrated that it too is prone to doing what feels good and sounds like justice rather than what makes the best long term sense for the country. But in a democracy, our leaders are a reflection of us. As long as we continue to operate with MTV-esque attention spans and gravitate to feed good solutions that fit on a headline, then our leaders will reflect that naivete, and doom us all.
