{"id":753,"date":"2008-03-27T12:35:00","date_gmt":"2008-03-27T17:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicholsclan.com\/tinblog\/2008\/03\/orbital-origami.html"},"modified":"2008-03-27T12:35:00","modified_gmt":"2008-03-27T17:35:00","slug":"orbital-origami","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/2008\/03\/orbital-origami.html","title":{"rendered":"Orbital Origami"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alert reader Chuck sends the blog this important bit of science news. <span class=\"inside-head\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/tech\/science\/space\/2008-03-27-origami-space-shuttle_N.htm\">Can an origami shuttle fly from space to Earth?<\/a>  He notes that it&#8217;s eerily similar to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/2008\/03\/snowflakes-in-space.html\">breakfast debate from March 5th<\/a>.  In fact, it may have settled it.  If a 2 inch paper airplane will hit Mach 7 and encounter temperatures of over 400 degrees, there wouldn&#8217;t seem to be any chance that a snowflake would stay below freezing.  The pressure concerns from the breakfast banter just make it&#8217;s survival all the more unlikely.  So I think we can safely stick a fork in this one.  It&#8217;s done.<\/p>\n<p>But it might be worth submitting to <a href=\"http:\/\/dsc.discovery.com\/fansites\/mythbusters\/mythbusters.html\">MythBusters<\/a> anyway.
