{"id":2152,"date":"2010-07-26T07:29:01","date_gmt":"2010-07-26T11:29:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicholsclan.com\/tinblog\/?p=2152"},"modified":"2010-07-25T10:59:44","modified_gmt":"2010-07-25T14:59:44","slug":"tortured-logic-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/2010\/07\/tortured-logic-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Tortured Logic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a plan, let&#8217;s outsource a large portion of government jobs as a way of creating private sector employment.\u00a0 Let that sink in for a moment.\u00a0 Wait until you get the uncontrollable urge to smack yourself on the forehead&#8230; then go ahead and give in a good whack.\u00a0 There you go.<\/p>\n<p>Yet this is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calthomas.com\/index.php?news=2980\">Cal Thomas&#8217; latest proposal<\/a>.\u00a0 Now I grant you that I almost always find Thomas to be wrong.\u00a0 In fact, I was having a little trouble coping with a column he wrote a couple weeks back on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.calthomas.com\/index.php?news=2971\">Law and Marriage<\/a> because I thought he raised an interesting point.\u00a0 I figured I must be missing something.\u00a0 But rarely does Thomas put forth an idea which is is so demonstrably wrong as his plan to outsource government jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s follow the dollars here for a moment.\u00a0 Taxes are collected.\u00a0 Out of those taxes, money is budgeted to pay for a government service.\u00a0 The government service contracts with a private company to fulfill that service.\u00a0 The private company hires someone to do the job.\u00a0 Connect all the dots, and that person&#8217;s wages are being paid with tax dollars.\u00a0 Yet somehow this counts as private sector employment?<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind, this is the same crowd who would strictly oppose those same tax dollars being spent for that same purpose if the same person was hired by the government rather than the private company to do the job.\u00a0 They would also oppose those tax dollars being given as a grant to a private company to do a function.<\/p>\n<p>What if the government were to cut out the middleman and just buy the company and run it for the purposes of doing the job?\u00a0 That&#8217;s textbook Socialism, and is so wrong Cal Thomas would just stroke out.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re an advocate for small government, then fine.\u00a0 But you can&#8217;t get there by outsourcing government jobs to the private sector.\u00a0 Those are still jobs being paid for by tax dollars, and additionally, taxes are paying for the profit the private company has to make as well.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not to say outsourcing is always a bad idea.\u00a0 But you can&#8217;t count it as private sector employment.\u00a0 Geezsh!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s a plan, let&#8217;s outsource a large portion of government jobs as a way of creating private sector employment.\u00a0 Let<\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\"><a href=\"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/2010\/07\/tortured-logic-2.html\" title=\"Read Tortured Logic\">Read more &raquo;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2152","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-politics"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2152","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2152"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2152\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":2155,"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2152\/revisions\/2155"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2152"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2152"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2152"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
