{"id":1575,"date":"2010-03-08T07:13:13","date_gmt":"2010-03-08T12:13:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nicholsclan.com\/tinblog\/?p=1575"},"modified":"2010-03-06T13:31:19","modified_gmt":"2010-03-06T18:31:19","slug":"mcleroy-is-upchuckiest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/2010\/03\/mcleroy-is-upchuckiest.html","title":{"rendered":"McLeroy Is UpChuckiest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.ehow.com\/images\/a04\/eg\/p7\/repair-leaky-toilet-tank-800X800.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Toilet\" src=\"http:\/\/i.ehow.com\/images\/a04\/eg\/p7\/repair-leaky-toilet-tank-800X800.jpg\" alt=\"Toilet\" width=\"175\" height=\"175\" \/><\/a>The National Center for Science Education has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tgdaily.com\/general-sciences-features\/48703-upchucky-awards-honor-clueless-creationists\">created the UpChucky Award<\/a>, given annually to &#8220;that one creationist whose efforts in the preceding year would inspire  Darwin (or any rational person) to &#8216;drive the porcelain bus&#8217;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ray Comfort was the runner-up after producing the hilarious &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aLqQttJinjo\">Atheist&#8217;s Nightmare<\/a>&#8221; video staring Kirk Cameron where the dynamic duo explain how the banana is incontrovertible proof of God&#8217;s detailed design of the universe.<\/p>\n<p>But the winner&#8230; Don McLeroy, former head of the Texas State Board of Education.\u00a0 McLeroy&#8217;s tireless work to defend the children from messages incongruous with his conservative Christian rewrite of reality are legend.\u00a0 He is famously quoted as saying, &#8220;Someone needs to stand up to the experts!&#8221;\u00a0 That&#8217;s our Don.\u00a0 Because the last people we want involved in educating our children are experts.<\/p>\n<p>While McLeroy has most famously been a thorn in the side of science education, <a href=\"http:\/\/timscogitorium.com\/tinblog\/2010\/02\/why-texas-matters.html\">he&#8217;s now lending his warped reality to Social Studies<\/a> as well. \u00a0 Last October McLeroy spouted to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/features\/2010\/1001.blake.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Washington  Monthly<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0 &#8220;We are a Christian nation founded on Christian  principles. The way I evaluate history textbooks is first I see how they  cover Christianity and Israel.
