The Interwebs are ablaze with news<\/a> that… well, here, I’ll let them tell it:<\/p>\n

Russian scientists are reporting to Prime Minister Putin today that the high-energy beam fired into the upper heavens from the United States High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) radar facility in Ramfjordmoen, Norway this past month has resulted in a \u201ccatastrophic puncturing\u201d of our Planet\u2019s thermosphere thus allowing into the troposphere an \u201cunimpeded thermal inversion\u201d of the exosphere, which is the outermost layer of Earth\u2019s atmosphere.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The assertion is that this “thermal inversion” is allowing the ice cold troposphere to rush down to the surface and is causing the harsh winter weather being felt in much of the northern hemisphere. Sound familiar? It should. It’s basically the plot of the movie The Day After Tomorrow<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Never mind that the top output from HAARP<\/a> is only 3 microwatts\/cm2, a ridiculously small amount compared with the sun’s natural radiation. It would be like blowing through a straw into a hurricane, or accusing a hand grenade of triggering an Earthquake. But hey, since when do we let physics get in the way of a good conspiracy theory?<\/p>\n

In addition to the usual conspiracy theorists who are determined the government is just rife with evil plots to destroy us, the man made global warming deniers are all over this. Which is really kind of comical. They regularly deny that 100 years of pumping greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere has had any effect on the climate. But one radio burst from an antenna array setting off a global catastrophe? You betcha.<\/p>\n

The only inversion here is recto-cranial…<\/p>\n
