It seems the MRI should be able to see into it, but again, I'm not a doctor.

Thanks for info, surgeon is well qualified university hospital of Wales. Nobody has heard of external lump before, can't get ultrasound for 14 weeks. Do you think mri could show what it is?

Hmmm... that still a small tumor, but you seem to be showing a lot of symptoms of a larger tumor. I've never heard of an external lump before. Obviously your doctor is going to have better advice than me. Make sure you're being treated by someone with experience with ANs. And if you're unsure, get a 2nd opinion. It never hurts.

It's 1 cm now, but due mri in Sept 12 to see if it's grown, trouble is I have just found a large lump on the outside of my skull, not diagnosed yet, but outside of where tumour is. I am 74 tomorrow and feel my age is against me anyway. I have very little hearing on right side already and can be quite unsteady on times

Yeah, not good things. The tumor expands and takes your hearing, balance, and causes facial paralysis. Then it starts pushing on your cerebellum (brain) which can cause all other kinds of issues down the road. It grows really slow though (at least typically) which is why for older people they often don't recommend treatment. Old age may get you before the tumor does.

Then I am on a hiding to nothing as my left ear is completely deaf as well. If you did not have the treatment did they tell you what was likely to happen
